Influence

You never know how you can be responsible for influencing someone to do the right thing. I received a phone call just after midnight from a lady in Pecos, Texas who found a preaching Bible belonging to a friend of mine from Stone Mountain, Georgia. Her husband found the Bible on the ground beside a gas pump at a gas station some time ago. My friend's name is embossed on the cover. The lady started looking through it recently to see if she could find my friend's address or phone number so she could return it to him. He did not have his personal information written in there. He had a prayer list, some cards, a church bulletin, an invitation to a 4th of July party from another one of my friends, and an invitation to my annual New Year's Eve Party containing all of my contact information. She took a chance and called me to tell me about the Bible and her desire to return it to its rightful owner. I gave her the contact information she needed and we ended up talking for almost an hour. She has had a lot of trouble in her life and is trying to make serious life-altering changes for herself and her family. She has a lot of stresses in her life from her work, school, and family. I think I was able to calm her down a little bit when I pointed out to her that not all stress is bad. I pray that she will have a better day today. Finding my friend's Bible has helped this lady to start re-evaluating her life. What an influence for good he had without even knowing it!

Thankful for the Rain

It was so nice to get some rain this weekend! The pollen has been washed off all the cars, the flowers are perked up, and the birds couldn't be happier based on the way they are singing.

Patch is lying on the rug by the storm door with one of her socks. Gerald is sitting by William's amp in the living room and William is out taking his first walk of the day. He walks our entire subdivision at least twice a day and has been doing this for a few years now. He averages 8.5-10 miles a day because sometimes he goes out after dinner for a short walk. His theory is if he walks every day, he can eat what he wants and will not get fat. The funny thing is that everyone knows him because they see him walking every day and he chats with some of the neighbors if he runs into them in a store. He's my social child!

I am excited about this week. Amanda graduates with her Bachelor degree in Liberal Arts on Thursday. We will head to Florida on Wednesday. Maybe we'll get there in time to have dinner with her before we go to Bible study. If not, we'll go to dinner afterwards! I must remember to take the camera and the cable with me so I can take lots of pictures.

My schedule looks pretty insane today, so I'd better get busy on my own classwork! I'll be back later.

The Kitchen is Smelling Good Today

I am cooking Argentine empanadas today and the kitchen smells pretty good! I've been taking pictures to upload.

The birds are singing and the cats are napping. The boys left for their Bible study this morning. My husband is upstairs working on his Bible lesson for tomorrow. He teaches our adult class on Sunday mornings. I still have to work on my lesson sheet.

We had a great gospel meeting this past week with Sewell Hall. I think he and his wife are going to try to come over this afternoon and visit for a while.

I need to prepare the pastry for the empanadas so I've got to go! I'll be back later.

Getting Ready for Guests

Good morning everyone! It's an exciting day at my house. Gaby spent the night with William again and he will be visiting with us until tomorrow. Our friend Tom is coming in for the weekend and the Nash Hotel is just about ready for his arrival! There has been a flurry of activity around here this morning. The tubs and showers are sparkling, the bedding has been washed, and the floors are getting vacuumed so the vinyl can be mopped.

Gerald and Patch have been following me around during all the cleaning. Now that I am downstairs they are upstairs with the boys watching them clean William's room. I have already taken care of Patch's litter pan and William will clean Gerald's Litter pan. Let me explain how we came to have two litter pans. We used to have one and then I decided I was tired of cleaning it all the time. My mother and my sisters said that they were pleased with the automatic litter pans they had for their cats. I thought they sounded great so off I went to purchase one for our cats! I left the old one out for about three days so the cats could adjust to the new one. Patch thought it was a marvelous new toy and would sit there and watch it after using it. She had the 10 minutes timed out for it to activate the rake. When the rake would get to the end to drop the deposit in, she would slap it!

Gerald, on the other hand, was in deep distress and he started making deposits in other rooms. I took him to the vet and she asked had there been any changes in his life. I told her about the new litter pan. The best thing we could figure out was that he must have been in the room with the litter pan when it activated the rake and something else scared him while he was in the room. He was less than a year old at the time and after his frightening experience he wouldn't use the new model! We had to put out the old litter pan for Gerald. The things we do for love!

Well, enough about my cats. I need to start preparing a breakfast casserole for tomorrow morning's breakfast. When I come downstairs in the morning, I'll put the casserole in the oven and then start the coffeee pot and the tea kettle. We usually have good conversations in the morning over breakfast. The boys will be going to a young people's Bible study after breakfast and I think we've got some other friends coming in for the afternoon to visit with the rest of us.

We are going to another friend's house for dinner tonight and I don't have to cook anything. I am so used to cooking and taking food with me when we go somewhere, it just doesn't seem right for me to go empty-handed!

I told you about my irises in an earlier blog. They have bloomed and they are gorgeous! In fact, I am going to have several flowers this year. This is wonderful since last year's show was pitiful. I just took a picture and I will get it added to my blog later.

I have a lot to do today, so I need to run! I'll be back later.

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning

These are the opening words to a Beatles song on the Sergeant Pepper album. You know, the one with the rooster crowing, the hunt bugles and the barking dogs. Anyway, it's noisy enough outside my house this morning with all the birds singing to one another. I love the outdoor sounds!

Patch is lying by the front storm door listening to all the sounds. I forgot to tell you, she actually "played" my son's electric guitar on Tuesday! This is our music loving cat. William had his guitar propped against the bookcase in the family room and he and I were having lunch at the kitchen table. Patch went up to the guitar, cocked her head, looked carefully at the strings, and then she leaned her head toward the guitar and plucked the strings with her teeth! She did this several times and about the time I said we ought to record it on the camera she stopped. If she ever does this again, I sure hope the camera is nearby.

I've already been busy in my kitchen this morning. We are going to a friend's house for dinner and I am taking some squash and a broccoli-cauliflower salad. William thinks we should be having squash for breakfast! I prepare it with bacon, onion, brown sugar, and a little salt and pepper and he has decided it is one of his favorite dishes. Now he is watching the prices in the grocery store and he points out when it's on sale! Did I tell you I think boys are a hoot!

Gerald has claimed his spot in the chair beside me. I call him my kitchen cat since he is always out here with me!

Next week my daughter will receive her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts. She will be graduating with honors again. She earned her Associates degree in Business from Gwinnett Tech two years ago and graduated with honors. She will begin her Master's in Library Sciences at USF in the fall. I am so proud of her and all the hard work she has done! I will take lots of pictures so you can see my "Bunny Rabbit." We had an interesting conversation when she was home during one of her breaks. She said if she were to work towards and receive her doctorate, she would want to be called Dr. Nash. I told her I was her mother and I didn't see myself addressing her as Dr. Nash, maybe Dr. Bunny Rabbit and I'll buy her a Build-a-Bear Bunny to finish off her honor! We had a good laugh together after she rolled her eyes at me.

Well, I must go. I have to take my car in for an oil change this morning. I'll be back later.

Time for a Break

It is already 11:02 a.m. and I need a break, so I decided to blog! I have been so busy studying this morning. I will get back to my books when I finish telling you about what I see and hear in my house today.

Gerald is curled up on my son's hoodie in the chair beside me. Patch is napping in the sunroom. William is listening to his iPod and has already read the political pages concerning yesterday's primary in Pennsylvania. I am obviously blogging on my laptop. I am at the kitchen table where I do all my school work and personal correspondence.

My friends from Argentina are coming in to stay with us for the weekend. They will be in the states for 2-3 months. I can't wait to see them again! Tom will be preaching both of our sermons at church this Sunday. Veronica and I will probably have fun cooking together on Saturday! I'll fill you in on the upcoming menu later in the week. Maybe we'll have milanesas or empanadas, yum!!

Well, I should probably get back to work. I'll be back later.

The Birds Are Singing in the Trees

Good morning everyone! Wow, it's a beautiful, noisy morning at my house. There are so many birds singing in the trees. Patch is in the sunroom listening to them sing. Gerald is asleep at the foot of my bed.

William is checking all his online political papers. He hopes to be a senator and he is a very politically active 16 year old. He has done a job shadowing day at the capital this year and has paged in both sides of the state house. He's getting ready to help some more of our local representatives in their campaigning for office.

I am getting ready to spend my day glued to my laptop so I can submit all my assignments that are due this week.

I hope all of you have a great day. I'll be back later.

This is the day the Lord has made, Rejoice and be glad in it.

Good evening everyone! I had a fantastic day today! We are having our spring gospel meeting this week at church. We had several visitors, which was quite nice. Our meeting runs through this Friday night. Sewell Hall is our speaker.

Well, it is late and I need to go to bed so I can get up early and start my week. Our BUS106 group will be meeting in the student center tomorrow. I think our project files are looking good!

I'll be back later.

It's Just Another Day

Hello everyone! It's another glorious day! The birds are singing, the cats are bathing and relaxing, and the sun is shining.

I have been working on my assignments for this week. Our group for BUS106 is in the process of submitting files so we can complete and submit our project to Ms. McLendon. I did some keyboarding and Word 2007 while I was at it. Next up, paragraph assignments for my English class. But first, a date with my husband!

I have a question. I hope someone can answer it. I have Kodak EasyShare on my laptop because I got a new Kodak camera last fall. How do you transfer pictures and videos from Kodak EasyShare into a blog?! The picture transfer capabilities were so much simpler with my old camera.

I hope all of you have a great weekend and I'll be back soon.

Meeting My Fellow Classmates

Wow! I just read all of your blogs. I enjoyed all of the pictures. It is nice to put names and faces together. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. I have some major school work to accomplish today.

The fun part of my day is coming! We have friends coming for dinner and a domino game called 42 afterwards. Tonight is Tex-Mex night at my house. On the menu for this evening: Spanish Cornbread, Frijoles, Organic Mixed Baby Greens Salad, Organic Blue Corn Chips, Peach Salsa, Guacamole and Sour cream with Organic Peach Sweet tea. My girlfriend is bringing the guacamole and dessert, probably something chocolate!

My son and his friend ,Gaby, are playing Madden 2007 on the X-Box right now. When they finish the game they are going to do some chores. They are heading out to a friend's house for Bible Study later today and then bowling afterwards.

I think boys are just a hoot! They are always laughing and having a good time. I have to take William to his guitar lessons before he and Gaby leave for the evening. William will be helping another friend dismantle a shed tomorrow. I hope they will both be careful!

Well, I need to run! I'll be back later,

Moya

It's a Beautiful Morning

It's a beautiful morning! Sounds like the title of a song:) Right now I am in my kitchen looking into my sunroom. Patch is on the sofa listening to the birds and Gerald is in the kitchen with me. I see some Mourning Doves and Cardinals out in the treeline and I hear several more birds in the nearby trees singing to one another.

I see some Dogwood blooms on the neighbor's tree behind my house and my next door neighbor's azaleas are gorgeous! It looks like I might have a really good Iris show this year! Last year my blooms were pitiful. The year before I had so many blooms I was able to keep my vases filled with fresh flowers for quite a while! My favorites are the deep purple color. I think I will have to split my Irises and relocate some of them later this year because they are getting too crowded around my lone tree.

I am getting ready to head out to the Gwinnett Visitor and Convention Center. After today, I should have my GTAP certificate completed. It is a 7 part series aimed at the Gwinnett Tourism trade. I have learned about our county's parks and recreation system, venues that are available for concerts, plays, sports, and tradeshow events, toured courthouses and museums, learned about some of our premier shopping malls, sampled some good food, and have been through the entire Gwinnett Civic Center and Arena. Plus there have been some great guest speakers! I got involved with this through a field trip I took with a group from Gwinnett Tech during my first quarter of school. I had my Longaberger business cards with me and I handed one to Linda Busby and she included me in her contact list. If you are in the tourism program you should really check this out. It's FREE. This session is almost finished but the next session starts in the fall. There are several people in the hotel and restaurant management field along with those working in the entertainment venues who attend this program and it's a great way to network.

I hope all of you have a lovely day! I'll be back tomorrow with more news.

Busy School Day!

Wow, I have had a busy day! I took my English test and submitted my files for this week's BUS106 assignment. I still have to write my portion of the paper for Group 3 so we can exchange files and complete our paper. I hope tomorrow's test will go well. Is everyone else having a fun day? I sure hope so.

You know, it is a lovely day! I am looking out my sunroom window, Gerald is taking a bath, Patch is taking a nap, and the birds are singing in the trees. We have this highly entertaining squirrel family that has a nest in the treeline out back and they are the friskiest little things! They chase each other and jump and run, I actually think they must be napping right now since I don't see them out playing.

I have Bible Study on Wednesday nights so I need to get myself ready to go. I hope all of you will have a great evening!

Tax day music to take away your 1040 Blues!

If I can get my video uploaded, the song in the background is 1040 Blues by the Robert Cray Band. If my house was burning down, this is the CD I would rescue!

The title of the CD is Robert Cray Shame + a Sin. The Beatles Taxman is another good song for today and it can be found on the Revolver CD.

I am going to have to work on the video upload. I have it on my Kodak EasyShare site, I just put it out there and now I have to figure out how to retrieve it and add it to my blog.

I'll be back soon!

I just found out my file is too big and that is the reason I cannot upload it. I will do a shorter one later.

Photographs and Memories

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from San Francisco, Muir Woods and Mendoza. My daughter graduated from Gwinnett Tech two years ago. My cats, Gerald and Patch. Gerald is the tabby and he was playing with some gourds out of one of my baskets and fell asleep in the hallway afterwards! Patch is my one-eyed black cat. She weighs in at 20 lb. and is my big girl!

Cooking in my Kitchen!

I spent a lot of time cooking this weekend. My kitchen is my favorite place to be! I baked 5 mini loaves of Pumpkin Cranberry bread on Friday. We entertained guests on Saturday so I made Baked Ziti, Ravilolini with Pesto Sauce, Garlic bread and Broccoli-Cauliflower salad . I took pictures to accompany this new posting. I just have to upload them from the camera.

Moya's Place

Welcome to Moya's Place

Wow! I think this is going to be fun! I am doing this blog as part of a school assignment. I am a full-time student at Gwinnett Technical College and I was one of those people who was generally afraid to push the button if it involved a computer. I started taking classes that heavily rely on computer use and I found out my computer could actually be quite a bit of fun!

I enjoy traveling, music, reading, cooking, walking, living...

My family's travels have taken us to some really cool places over the years. My favorite American city has got to be San Francisco. I go with my husband every fall when he attends the Oracle conference. We get up and have breakfast together and then I take off for the day. I always end up along the Fisherman's Wharf area at Pier 39 watching the Sea lions. If you ever get a chance to go, Run!, No, Fly! Really, just go and enjoy yourself. We have taken our son with us the past two years and he loves it as much as I do and he's a great travel companion.

This past September and October found us visiting friends and doing some missionary work in Argentina. My husband preached a series of lessons in three different cities. Our home base was in Mendoza. Mendoza is a large city with a beautiful downtown and lots of parks. The terrain is mountainous. The people we met were extremely loving, friendly and generous. Many of them did not have much in the way of physical possessions but if they had anything they were ready to share it with us. Have I mentioned Argentine beef? You haven't had anything like it over here! I went to lunch at one family's house and the man's two year old grandson was there for lunch. Waldo, our host, gave his grandson a thick cut of beef for lunch that we would see an adult eat in Longhorn's! We took a 12-13 hour bus ride on a Cama Coche from Mendoza to Buenos Aires and spent 5 days working there. Buenos Aires is extremely humid! I am talking about your towels don't dry from one day to the next humid! Again, just absolutely wonderful, incredibly social people. Everyone drinks mate! Even the children like it. I went back to Mendoza with my sister-in-law while my husband and son headed further south to Commodoro Rivadavia with our friend to work with another church. Sadly, our trip had to come to an end and it was so hard leaving the dear friends we had made during our travels.

I am from St Albans, England. My parents divorced when I was a child and my Mom and Stepfather brought me to America. They live in Tennessee. My Dad and Stepmother live in County Longford in Ireland. We took our son and daughter, Amanda to visit Grandad and Granny Chris and the rest of the family in 2003. My Dad's property includes the ruins of an old abbey from the 1400s. My kids and all the nieces and nephews loved to run and play all over the countryside. Sheep! Sheep are scattered all over the rugged, beautiful landscape. I can't tell you enough about how absolutely gorgeous this country is. We actually were able to travel to 17 counties in the south during our trip. We plan to spend some time in Northern Ireland next time we visit.

The year 2000 found us in central Europe in mid-March on a missionary trip with friends meeting new friends! Our home base was in Bratislava, Slovakia. We also went to Prague and Brno in the Czech Republic, Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungary. The architecture in these old cities is stunning! Our country is so young and these countries are old and rich with history and the beautiful old buildings are amazing. Prague, lit up at night, will just take your breath away! It was still very much winter while we were there and the snow on the landscape was just beautiful to behold. I hope to go back with my husband and friends one year.
